Interns contribute to real projects while learning how artists, production teams, and business partners collaborate to create bold, emotionally resonant animated films. Interns gain exposure to real projects, build industry-relevant skills, and learn how creative, production, and business teams collaborate to bring animated stories to life.

Is this a paid internship?

Yes. All interns are paid and classified in accordance with applicable labor laws.

How long is the internship?

Internships are 5 weeks long during the summer. Exact dates may vary by department and academic calendar.

Is the internship full-time or part-time?

Internships are full-time (approximately 40 hours per week).

The process may include:

During the Internship

What kind of work will interns do?

Interns work on real, production-relevant projects that directly support their teams and the films in development at Sony Pictures Animation. Responsibilities vary by role but may include:

  • Assisting with production tasks
  • Supporting creative development
  • Conducting research
  • Participating in reviews, meetings, and brainstorms

Will I have a manager or mentor?

Yes. Each intern is paired with a dedicated manager and supported by mentors, teammates, and recruiting partners. SPA emphasizes thoughtful mentorship, clear feedback, and learning through collaboration.

Will there be training or learning opportunities?

Yes. In addition to on-the-job learning, SPA interns typically participate in:

  • Studio and pipeline orientations
  • Professional development sessions
  • Creative talks, filmmaker panels, and artist spotlights
  • Networking events with artists, producers, and studio leaders

Will interns receive feedback?
Yes. Interns usually participate in midpoint and end-of-internship check-ins to receive feedback and reflect on growth.

Location, Schedule & Work Environment

Is the internship in-person, hybrid, or remote?

Work arrangements vary by role and business needs but at a minimum will be hybrid. Job postings will specify whether the internship is fully in-person or hybrid.

Are interns expected to relocate?

If the role is in-person or hybrid, interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation unless otherwise stated.

What are the typical work hours?
Most interns follow standard business hours, but schedules may vary depending on the department.

Academic Credit & School Requirements

Can I receive academic credit?

Many interns receive academic credit, but arrangements must be made directly with your school. We are happy to provide documentation if needed.

Can the internship accommodate school requirements?
We do our best to accommodate reasonable academic requirements when communicated in advance.

After the Internship

Does completing an SPA internship guarantee a job?

No. While an internship does not guarantee future employment, many SPA interns are considered for future internships, contract roles, or entry-level opportunities based on performance and business needs.

Can interns apply for future roles?

Yes. Former interns are encouraged to apply for future internships or entry-level roles and stay connected with the studio.

Will I be able to list this internship on my resume?
Absolutely—and we encourage you to highlight the skills and experiences you gained.
